Interview with ABC6 News

(Carly with Bob Kendrick)
So Channel 6 news did a segment on teens 'coming out' at an early age. After thinking about it and discussing the issue with both Carly and Abby, not to mention all the suicides that occurred in September, we agreed to go on camera with our story.
It will air on November 3, 2010... so I will have a new blog when that comes out... haha no pun intended!
Here are the e-mails that transpired between myself, Glenn (director of KYC) and Bob Kendrick, news anchorman from ABC6

Hi Nichole-
I wanted to talk to you and your husband about a request we got from Channel 6. Jen and I met with Bob Kendrick from Channel 6 last week. He is interested on doing a piece on youth who are coming out at an earlier age. He wants to interview a family who is supportive of their child in the process. Jen and I thought of you. I’m wondering if you guys would be interesting in being interviewed for this piece. Let me know what your initial thoughts are. We can chat more about this in person or over the phone.

Thanks!
Glenn

Glenn-
As far as the interview, let us talk it over with Carly and Abby (Carly's younger sister) first. We plan on chatting tonight, so I will let you know by Friday evening. That is a HUGE step for Carly, as well as us as a family. My initial thoughts are yes, but I still want to protect my daughter- so we will let her make the choice.

Nichole-
Yes, an interview would be a huge step. I probably don’t need to say this but it is 100% not a problem if you decide not to do it. Keep me posted.

And see you here on Saturday.

Thanks,

Glenn

Hi Nichole,

That’s great. I will email Bob Kendrick that you are interested in the interview and the you all can connect that way. Let me know if you’d like for Jen or I to be involved in any way. Thanks for agreeing to do this.

Hi Niki,
Glenn Zermeno at Kaleidoscope Youth Center let me know that he's spoken with
you and that you would be willing to do an on camera interview for our story
on gay teens. Basically, it's about the trend of teens 'coming out' earlier
and the pros and cons
I see us coming to your home to get you interacting with your child and
also some of her at the Youth Center.
Could you please let me know the best time to get you all together. I'd like
to get this portion of the story shot this week.
Also, if you can give me a good time to call, so we can talk about your
story beforehand, that would be great. You can call me anytime, at the
number below.
Thanks again for your time and I hope we can talk soon!

LGBT Awareness @ Ohio State

Westboro Baptist Church made a stop along the way to the Supreme Court, on October 4, 2010.
We greeted them with a warm welcome. OK, so we tried. After 10 minutes of protesting, they left.
But OSU was holding a LGBT awareness month rally, despite WBC's visit.
So many of the LGBT community, on campus, came loaded with their own version of obnoxious signs! It was great.
Many information booths were set up and lots of freebe's were given out.
It was a rather quite visit from the hateful church... I was a little disappointed that they didn't hang out longer. O'well, maybe next time :D

And she was not about to give them up. At all.

Columbus Nature

This is the view I have while doing my laundry. I thought that it would look neat as a black and white photo... so here it is :)
LOL... I know, how much more morbid can I be? At least it's not headstones. Yet.

These two pictures (above and below) are out at Chadwick Lake. Chadwick is the research lake at OSU

These last few are at Goodale Park in Columbus.
Just a few random nature shots on Carly's birthday :)

1st Ear Infection

This is at her one week check up. She was NOT a happy camper. She HATES when people touch her ears. I don't blame her :( It took three adults to hold her down to get a good look.
Isaboo finally got her first ear infection, early October, after over a year of having tubes. She had no other signs and symptoms, other than over the course of a few days she would get nose and ear bleeds. So after 2 days of her ears bleeding, I decided to take her into Children's Hospital... Luckily it was just an ear infection, and we were sent on our way with two scripts and some Tylenol and Motrin for the discomfort and sleepless nights :(
Thankfully after a couple weeks the infection was gone. Weird though, she never really complained.

Carly Turns 13!!!

Carly is officially a teenage.
*insert long deep breath*
The weekend of her birthday, KYC was having a BBQueer, yes, you read that right! So we Incorporated her birthday to it!
She knew NOTHING about this little 'surprise party', so she was quite shocked when everyone there broke out in a loud 'Happy Birthday' song to her as we walked up. Cake and birthday hat awaited her arrival, and she was embarrassed... red with embarrassment!

A half sheet of yummy surgary goodness... which didn't last long! At all.

Someday....

I am so sorry for not giving the blog a little love. I keep saying "this weekend", but then this weekend comes and goes. Sorry.

I will get to it- I promise!

So until then, here is a taste of what has been going on....

Carly turned 13, Tom got his cast removed and a new one put on. School started for me. We attended a function for the LGBT community where Carly recieved an award and Tom spoke. We did an interview with the local 10 News- Bob Kindrick and camera crew came to our home for a couple hours. Isa took school pictures- that she was not very happy about. Abby lost 2 teeth while at school. And lastly, I went to OSU to see President and First Lady Obama.

It has been an amazing couple of months and we have been on the go, go, go!

So sorry to have let the blog go for some time... but I will get it caught up.

Someday.

:D
